"Edgar!"

"Cassima!" Edgar exclaimed, staring at her in amazement. From his perspective, Cassima's head was hovering in midair, looking oddly transparent. "You're…you're…"

"It looks like your head is hovering in front of me, Edgar!"

"Same with me," Edgar said, rising from his seat on the mossy stone. "What's going on?"

"What do you think?"

"Is it something to do with the pendants? It has to be!"

"Of course! I suppose us possessing the same two pendants must link us together in some way. Were you thinking of me when I appeared?"

"Why, yes! Were you?"

"Yes! This is amazing," Cassima said, shivering with astonishment rather than the icy air of the Serenian mountains. "We can actually communicate through these pendants!"

"It is amazing…and fortunate too."

Cassima nodded in agreement.

"Where are you, Edgar?"

"Well, I went to a land near my home called the Bountiful Woods, then I went to a place called…Cassima? Cassima??"

Cassima's face had contorted into an ugly grimace. From what little Edgar could see of her, she appeared to be bending over somewhat, as if she were in pain. Presently, however, she straightened up and brushed some stray hairs from her face.

"What? Oh, sorry, Edgar. I just felt a little ill for a moment. Nothing serious, I'm certain. Probably just exhaustion from being up this high. I'm in the mountains."

"I hope it's not serious," Edgar muttered. "Anyway, I'm in a place called Llewdor now."

"Hmm…" Cassima said thoughtfully, putting a finger to her chin. "That's odd…"

"Why?"

"No reason," Cassima replied a touch hastily. "I'm in Serenia at the moment, and I'm just preparing to leave."

"Where are you going?"

"I don't really know," Cassima confessed. "Do you have any destination in mind?"

"I was told to go to Tamir."

The name seemed faintly familiar to Cassima, but she couldn't quite place it.

"Well, perhaps my travels will lead me there eventually," Cassima shrugged. "Right now, I'm heading east."

"I thought you said you didn't know where you're going," Edgar said. "And if you don't have a clear picture of the land you're trying to reach in your mind, these pendants don't work properly…"

"No…I'm traveling another way," Cassima said enigmatically.

"What do you mean?"

"I'll explain it to you later."

"If you say so," Edgar shrugged. He glanced at his still-glowing pendant. "Eh…how do you…turn these things off? Do I just stop looking at you?"

"Sounds as good as any idea I'd have come up with. Well…good luck, Edgar."

With that, the image of Cassima's face faded, leaving Edgar alone in Llewdor, while on the other side of the world, the image of Edgar's face faded, leaving Cassima alone in the mountains of Serenia.
